2009 Upper Deck Series 2: Jason Varitek

I think of all the players that I have followed as an adult, Jason Varitek is the one that I miss seeing play the most.  “Tek” was the Captain of the Red Sox for years, and his presence on and off the field was one that has been missed by the Red Sox, especially this year.  This card, from 2009 Upper Deck Series 2, highlights a very important attribute of Varitek.

#563, Jason Varitek

This is a great card of Varitek.  One of the things that I miss about Upper Deck baseball cards, is the photography.  Varitek was nearing the end of a very solid career when this card came out.  In this image, Tek is seen swinging, (a bit low) at a pitch.  The look on his face is determination, and his importance to the team can be seen by that ‘C’ on his chest.    Sense his retirement baseball has missed another of its great Captains.
