2001 Fleer Greats of the Game: Why did no one tell me about this?

I am kind of upset with myself.  For the past few months I have been trying to put together a set of 2004 Fleer Greats of the Game.  I have had little success, though I keep looking for singles.

I recently opened one of the Fairfield Cubes, a repackaged product that usually contains a decent amount of cards that I end up keeping.  I came across an ’01 Greats of the Game, and I was hooked. Why didn’t anyone tell me about this set? Yes, I know it’s my fault. I should have come across this set much earlier, but somehow, I didn’t.

So here is the 1st of what will be an entire set of 2001 Fleer Greats of the Game.

#101, Jim “Catfish” Hunter

As far as the design of the card goes, I don’t like all of the white.  I think that Fleer could have used a different background, which would have made these cards really pop.  That being said, I have looked at the checklist, and it is amazing.  When it comes to image selection, I am not too thrilled with this one.  I do like that Hunter is younger and in his A’s uniform, but this is a very boring shot, which is stacked on top of a boring background.  Yet it is the 1st of this set that I have obtained, so it has to be appreciated for that reason alone.
