1986 Topps Appreciation Day: 2nd entry

Another of my favorite cards from the ’86 Topps set, celebrates a stat that is no longer officially kept: Game-winning RBI’s.

#203, Keith Hernandez

This card pays homage to an aspect of the game that truly demonstrates a player’s ability to be clutch when the game in on the line.  As the card shows, “Mex” holds the record for the most Game-winning RBI’s in a season (24).

This card has a great shot of Keith losing his helmet on his follow through.  Not known for his power, Hernandez still managed to 1,071 RBI’s, 129 of which were game winners.  Hernandez is one of my favorite all-time players and should be in the Hall of Fame.
