In order to get things back on track, I felt it would be appropriate to do a quick post about one of my favorite sets, 1993 Ted Williams Company Baseball cards, which features one of, if not the greatest catcher of all-time, Yogi Berra.
#58, Yogi Berra
I really dig the design of these cards. The logo, running across the top of the card, is raised, which gives the card an added element of interest. The two images, particularly on this card, work well with each other. The image in the foreground shows Berra at an angle that gives an accurate impression of his size: he is 5′ 7″. The image makes him look short, because he is short, yet contrast that image with the background which shows a powerful swing, and a dangerous one at that. Afterall, he hit 358 home runs and had 1430 runs batted in.
I know that I am in the minority on this, but I miss the days when multiple companies could produce fully licensed cards. This set accomplishes what Panini Cooperstown tries to.
