Since being reactivated from the disabled list, Evan Gattis has had a rough start. In 4 games, he had just one hit in 13 AB. Then, this past saturday, Gattis had 2 hits in 2 AB. However, today is the official return of “El Oso Blanco.” Gattis went 3/4 with a HR and two RBI’s. In honor of his triumphant return, I felt it would be fitting to post about this incredible catcher.
#135, Evan Gattis (RC)
This is the Zip Code parallel, which falls one per box. Imagine my excitement when I pulled this card: my favorite current catcher’s rookie card, and it is a somewhat limited print! Panini did a good job designing these cards; however the lack of MLB logos makes itself apparent on this card.
The fact that Gattis is in the middle of his powerful swing, limits the exposure of his chest, where one would normally see either the team name or city. Be that as it may, under his right arm there is a lot of gray space. The most glaring omission of a logo, is the helmet. With his head angled down, it draws a lot of attention to that all-blue helmet. The red banner works well with Atlanta, as it does with most teams whose colors feature red.
Panini needs to be more aware of its limitations and use pictures that don’t call attention to the lack of logos. With any catcher, if they will use a picture of him in his gear, they will have some very solid cards.
