In honor of the 2014 All-Star game being held in Minnesota, I will be posting about one of the greatest Twins of all time, catcher, recently turned 1st baseman, Joe Mauer.
2013 Topps Triple Threads #94, Joe Mauer
This card is the Emerald parallel, numbered 43/250. Personally, I love the look of this card. For some reason, the green works well with the alternate Twins uniform. And Joe is pictured doing what he does best, hitting.
Mauer has been a mainstay at recent all-star games, earning 6 trips to the Midsummer Classic since his rookie year in 2004. For a period of 4 years, Mauer was one of, if not the best catchers in the AL. However, injuries to his legs forced him to move to 1st base this past season.
Mauer was an incredible catcher, and has the highest career batting average for the position, .328. Not known for his power, he may never be an all-star 1st baseman. But he definitely deserves accolades for his incredible prowess at the plate.
