2013 Topps Triple Threads: Catchers

With the recent trip to Collector’s Den, my lcs, I was able to add to my growing collection of catchers.  2013 Topps Triple Threads had a number of Hall of Fame and current superstar catchers, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to add them to my collection:

2013 Topps Triple t catchers

Joe Mauer, Yogi Berra, and Buster Posey.

Mauer is no longer a catcher (he has moved to 1st base), but for the span of about 6 years, he was the best catcher in the AL.  He is a 6x all-star (as a catcher), and in ’09 he won the AL MVP.

I hate the Yankees, but I can’t help but like Yogi Berra.  In the discussion of greatest catchers of all-time, there are only two names on the table, and one of them is Yogi.  When it comes to his Hall of Fame career, only one stat needs to be listed: as a player he was a 10x World Series Champion.

Buster Posey is the best all-around catcher in baseball.  In his short career, he has won 2 World Series, an MVP, the Comeback Player of the Year Award, a Silver Slugger award, Rookie of the Year, and has twice been an all-star.  And he is only 27.  This kid will be a dominate force behind the plate for years to come.

2013 Topps TT Biggio

I have to add this card of Biggio, as an honorable mention.  While he only played catcher for 3 years, Biggio made the most of his time, earning a Silver Slugger award and making the all-star team in ’91.  On this card, he is clearly playing 2nd base, but I still consider him a great catcher, and a player that I actively collect.
