The Original “Big Three”

On a recent trip to Collector’s Den, my lcs, I was able to nab a stack of 2013 Triple Threads of some of my favorite players.  Included in that stack were cards of three of the greatest pitchers in the last 30 years:

2013 Braves Pitchers

Greg Maddux Amethyst parallel numbered 205/650, John Smoltz Amethyst parallel numbered 362/650, and Tom Glavine base card.  These three pitchers made up one of the most dominating rotations in the history of baseball.  It was impossible to grow up in the 90’s and not know about them.

Forget James, Wade, and Bosh, Maddux, Smoltz, and Glavine were the orignal “Big Three.”  Thanks largely to TBS, my brother and I watched Braves games all the time, and I remember how automatic the Braves were whenever one of these pitchers was on the mound.

Maddux and Glavine were enshrined in Cooperstown this year, and I have no doubt that Smoltz will be inducted soon (hopefully in 2015, his first year of eligibility).

I would love to have an auto and relic for all three, so I must keep an eye out.
