One of the things that I appreciate about the changes to the hobby is the widespread availability of singles. When I was collecting as a kid, there were only a few places to get singles: trading with friends, hobby shops, or card shows. Suffice it to say, finding a card that I really wanted was very tough and usually took a long time.
Luckily, there a number of websites dedicated to selling singles: ebay, sportlots, and my favorite, check out my cards (comc.com). With these sites, I have been able to find hundreds of cards for my player collection. My most recent purchase netted me this card:
2013 Panini Hometown Heroes Carlton Fisk. This is the state parallel of the base card. I was lucky enough to pull the base card in the box that I bought a few months back. All told, there are 6 versions of the Carlton Fisk base card. I still need the SP card (White Sox Uniform) and the state and zip code parallels for the SP card. In addition, I need the zip code version of this card.
I really like this set; it has an old-school look and the card stock is reminiscent of early 80’s Topps, although it is thicker. The banner across the bottom works great with the Red Sox players, as the banner almost looks like a red sock.
This card is particular has a great image, with only minimal airbrushing. Only the B is missing from his helmet. Overall, I am pleased with this card, and the set is amazing, especially with the number of Carlton Fisk cards; 2 down, 4 to go.
